The Chicken & the Duck
2026 · Dance Days Chania
The Chicken & The Duck is a contemporary dance duet exploring the internal conflict between identity and aspiration — what one is versus what one longs to become. Two performers embody different aspects of a single inner self. The audience initially perceives them as two separate characters. Only gradually does it become clear: they are not interacting with each other, but within the same psyche.
The Chicken & The Duck is a piece about the internal struggle of a person that desperately tries to find their place in this world. Somebody that is looking for a place to belong, an identity. The work unfolds as a mute, physical dialogue. Through rhythm, repetition, and a series of increasingly desperate attempts to synchronize, the performers navigate a relationship that is at once comedic, awkward, and deeply human.
Balancing humor with vulnerability, The Chicken & The Duck invites audiences to recognize the absurdity and poignancy of internal struggle—suggesting that identity may not be something to resolve, but something to continuously negotiate.
